Bound

Bound

What a beautiful game!

I don’t really use the word “beautiful”, I mean I’m a man after all (grrr…), but there is no other word for Bound.

Apart from stunning. Beautiful and stunning. I’m gonna use that quote thing again:

Bound transports you into a beautiful, fantastical world that exists in the mind of a woman revisiting the memories of her childhood. You’ll use dance moves to traverse vast environments filled with platforming challenges. As the game progresses, the introspective story unfolds through powerful metaphor and imagery, adding emotional depth to the protagonist’s journey.

On the surface, that doesn’t sound very enthralling does it? Oh, how wrong you are! Strap on that headset, choose VR world and lose yourself forever in a visual feast. As with most games, I usually go in knowing very little about them. In fact the blurb above has just told me everything I need to know – and I’ve been playing it for ages!

Hmm… Think I’ll revisit some childhood memories…

You control a Princess in the game – following the orders of her mother, the Queen, to vanquish a monster that is destroying their world – and she is beautiful and graceful and I think I’m a little bit in love with her. Her every move is pure ballet. I dare you to show me a game with a more completely and wonderfully animated character. And as for the world she inhabits – wow. Just wow. The developers know their physics all right. There is so much going on, from the sea of cubes to the Princess’ every move interacting with this complex world.

Marry me!

That, basically, is all you need to know. It’s not a shoot ’em up. It’s not Tomb Raider. It’s not Resident Evil. It’s not even Shooty Fruity! It’s just a lovely, visually stunning game, which is great to pick up when you just need to escape from the real world. As with a lot of PSVR games, I found myself just drinking in the sights – and there’s nothing wrong with that at all.
